GICLEE EDITIONS MADE FROM RELIEF PRINTS

This is how I have decided to make my imagery available in my retirement. I hand print as far as the "bon a tirer" stage (my best proof) and then, instead of handing that proof to an in-house assistant to repeat, I give it to an outside press for printing on a high quality ink jet printer such as Epson. At this point it is possible to "fine tune" the image so that what you see is precisely what I envisioned.

I love designing and cutting and proofing relief prints whether on wood, linoleum or mdf board. The process creates a look that suits my style. But it is no longer necessary to hand pull editions for best results. Ink jet technology is simply better. Each impression is EXACTLY what I want you to see. From my eyes and heart to yours! And giclee prints can be made on sturdier, whiter paper which doesn't yellow using light resistant inks that last much longer than the rubber base ink I've used for so long.

My pencil signature is your guarantee of the originality of the image. My "hand" chop next to my signature tells you that the print medium is Giclee. Otherwise, when framed, you would not be able to distinguish between these and the hand pulled. The chop also identifies new giclee impressions from previous hand printed "open edition" titles that we can again make available.

If you regret the disappearance of the hand pulled print, perhaps this analogy helps: would you request an operation with old technology? Or would you ask the surgeon to choose the technology best suited for a better outcome?

Thanks for your attention and happy collecting,
