Brunelleschi won the job to build this huge span, widest since the Pantheon, by telling the judges to choose the contestant who could make an egg stand up on a table. Everyone’s eggs toppled except for Brunelleschi’s which he gently tapped until it was blunt enough to stand on its end. His solution to replicating the egg shape for a dome was huge stone ribs branching from lantern to drum kept from springing apart by stone chains raised into the vault by machinery he invented. Paper size: 14in. x 14in. This is the 9in. x 9in. version of this print. An 18in. x 18in. version is available, as well as the entire suite. This is a Giclee print on archival hot press rag.
