Here's the glorious 1806 church designed by Lavius Filmore, where some of my Vermont ancestors worshipped and in whose church yard some are buried. The graceful arched ceiling, speaks of a sophistication more to be expected in Boston than the outpost of civilization which was Bennington at that time. I confess to a proprietary feeling for the interior, especially the initials carved in that graceful gallery railing by a naughty forbearer.
